Mission — first post
Welcome to this page, where we'll discuss all things entomological, musical and more. I'm perhaps one of the greatest music listeners of all time (self-declared), one of the biggest insect and spider enthusiasts of all time (also self-declared) and I am incredibly passionate about conservation (this is just a fact).
Join me in my quest for beauty, to shed light on some of the smallest and craftiest creatures. Essentially, I have a soft spot for species that have been disregarded. I believe it benefits big corporations to separate us from nature — and what better tactic to use than "morality"?
- The serpent gave Eve the apple. Devil!
— Us moral humans are better than evil snakes. - Mice carry disease. Gross!
— Therefore us disease-less humans can run copious and extensive animal testing on them. - Pigs are unhygienic. Yuck!
— Thus, our clean species can throw them into the factory farming chain of unnecessary torture. - Spiders = scary & creepy! #creep #thomyorkecore
— And so their webs will be featured in horror films and associated with death. - Dandelions (and weeds) are vicious and will take over any monocrop of grass. Keep them out!
— And whose fault is it that such vulnerable grass plots, with no biodiversity to strengthen them against invasives, exist? Couldn't be us genetically diverse humans.
It doesn't benefit us to see ourselves as separate from the ecosystem around us. We are a part of it. Ever have that random itch to run away and live in the forest? Or to develop a close bond with an animal? Swim in a body of water? That isn't by coincidence. We feel this draw to return to the nature we evolved in.
So who does it benefit when we isolate ourselves from the natural world around us? Who makes money from our disdain for small, harmless creatures?
I won't deny that mice spread disease, or that venomous snakes can kill. But why do we think so poorly of the small and the helpless? How do we justify the way we treat nature? If you're also a fan of these demonized beauties, join me in my journey for appreciation. 🕷
